Randolph Co. Extension Service to hold fair judging school

The Randolph County Extension Service will be holding a fair judging school on Tuesday, May 23, at the St. Paul Parrish located at 1002 Convent Street in Pocahontas. Registration will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. with the first session beginning at 9:15 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. The second session will be from 10:20 until 11:20 a.m. then take a lunch break until noon. Session three will start at noon and end at 1 p.m. with a break from 1 until 1:15 p.m. with the fourth session being from 1:15 until 2:15 with the closing from 2:15 until 2:30 p.m.

Powhatan State Park plans watercolor painting workshop

Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Victorian Watercolor Painting Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13. Join park staff to learn how Victorian Americans used watercolors to brighten up their home. No painting experience is required. Space is limited and reservations are required. Meet and Greet slated for Kinders at Ford Room

Meet and Greet Brian and Terri Kinder on the third Thursday, May 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the back of the house event prior to the Kinder’s show at the Ford Room in Rector. With entrance at the back of the soon to be unveiled Farm Room, the Meet and Greet is an informal, tummy-filling time to visit with Brian and Terri and other Ford Room fans. The cost of admission is $20 for plenty of Mavis Smith prepared deliciousness and a reserved seat for the music and fun.

Dorman chosen as 2023 Arkansas Rural Education Assoc. North Teacher of the Year

Lauren Dorman, first grade teacher at Rector Elementary School, has been chosen as the 2023 Arkansas Rural Education Association North Teacher of the Year. She was nominated by the Northeast Arkansas Education Co-operative that serves Clay County schools and other schools in the area. One nominee was chosen to represent the south (of I-40) area and Dorman was chosen to represent the north (of I-40) area. By her video submissions, rubric compilation, philosophy of teaching, and answers to specific goal-centered questions, Dorman was selected as the recipient of a $1000 award and crystal apple furnished by Arkansas Rural Electric that sponsors the recognition program. “I am honored to represent Rector School District in this way.”

CCAC names 2023 scholarship recipients

As Clay County Arts Council scholarship applicants displayed in 2023, the future of arts utilization in career opportunities is expanding along multiple pathways. From the challenge of and appreciation for creating and playing music, to the use of painting and creative writing in marketing, and the boom seen in digital design, all have shaped the lives of the applicants.
