Black River Technical College (BRTC) hosted National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Instructor Mike Blizzard who taught six instructors from across Arkansas the ins and outs of NIMS accreditation.
1983 Deneika Harris is the valedictorian of the Greenway senior class. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Devon Harris. Andy Small is the salutatorian of the Greenway High School senior class. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Junior Small.
Kasey Featherston, RN, at the Piggott Community Hospital Emergency Department was recently awarded two UAMS Stroke Champion Silver Club certificates in recognition of her quick response for two stroke patients. Kasey serves as the hospital’s Stroke Coordinator and helps with community education, staff training and organization of the stroke program. When asked about her involvement in the stroke program, she said “It’s really tough when it’s someone I know; it’s more personal and tense and you worry about outcomes of people you know.” The Silver Club recognizes nurses who exceed 90% for clinical excellence on the stroke consult score sheet and meet or exceed time targets for administering the clot-busting medication. For the Silver club, it’s a 31-45 minute door-to-needle time, which Kasey accomplished for 2 patients in one month. Kasey says that many patients are shocked by the whirlwind of activity and that staff try to explain everything, but quick timing can save brain function, so they’ve got to complete the assessment as quickly as possible in order to reverse/prevent deficits left by stroke.
Williams Baptist University will confer diplomas to 135 graduates during the 2023 commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 6. The event begins at 10 a.m.
Mitchell Cemetery will be holding a benefit indoor yard sale at the Greenway Picnic dining hall. The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 4 and 5 and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 6.
Black River Technical College will hold its Registered Nursing pinning and graduation ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, in the Randolph County Development Center on the Pocahontas Campus.
Liberty Hill Cemetery will host its annual decoration day on Saturday, May 6. A business meeting will start at 11 a.m. with a potluck dinner following at noon. Those interested in making a donation to the cemetery may do so at First National Bank or mail to Mike Cook, 853 Castleberry, Piggott, Ark., 72454.
The University of Central Arkansas at Conway will hold spring commencement Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, 2023, in the Farris Center on campus. The times for the ceremonies are as follows: Graduate ceremony, 7 p.m. Friday, May 5. Undergraduate ceremonies, 4 p.m. Friday, May 5 and 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6.
