Rector sixth grade graduation ceremony held
Rector Elementary School held its traditional sixth grade promotion program on Thursday, May 25, at the Cougar Gym where relatives and friends of the sixth graders watched as the group was declared by Principal Mark Manchester “officially high schoolers.”
Kindergarten graduation held at RES
As Rector’s Kindergarten completed a milestone on May 25 inside the Rector Gym with friends and family in attendance, the group of youngsters sang ‘ABC-YA Later’ and ‘I’m On My Way’ to huge smiles and happy applause.
BASEBALL
The Piggott Baseball Awards were held Friday, May 19 at Cajun Dave’s in Piggott. Coach Shawn Hearn, Coach Scott Dodd, and Coach Brent Gossett thanked all of their supporters throughout the season and introduced the junior high and senior high baseball teams. The meal was provided by Cajun Dave’s.
BRAD to hold public meeting
Black RiverArea Development Corporation will be conducting a public hearing for the 2023-2024 Community Services Block Grant Program from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, June 9. The hearing will address the use of CSBG funding in the community and will be held in the basement meeting room at the BRAD Central Office, 1403 Hospital Drive, Pocahontas.
United Auto Workers set to meet June 8 in Paragould
United Auto Workers retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at Grecian Steak House, 210 Airport Road, in Paragould.
Summer canning workshop to be held
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a summer workshop on canning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1 and Saturday, July 15. Park staff will teach participants how to preserve food through canning. Staff will discuss the history of canning and give tips for making canning each. Participants will leave with a sample canned good made at the workshop. Both workshops will cover the same topics. Space is limited and reservations are required.
