BRAD to hold public meeting

Black RiverArea Development Corporation will be conducting a public hearing for the 2023-2024 Community Services Block Grant Program from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, June 9. The hearing will address the use of CSBG funding in the community and will be held in the basement meeting room at the BRAD Central Office, 1403 Hospital Drive, Pocahontas.

Powhatan State Park to host Trial by Jury

Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Trial by Jury from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 27. Put yourself in place where history happened as you become judge, part of the jury, a lawyer, or maybe even the accused as we bring a court case from Powhatan’s history to life. No acting experience is needed, but participants should come ready to dive in. Space is limited and reservations are required. There is a registration fee of $25. Piggott 4-H Livestock team fundraiser underway

The Piggott 4-H Livestock team is currently hosting a You’ve Been “Budded” fundraiser through May 30. You can help support the club by “budding” a friend, family, business, or neighbor for $25. A display of clovers will be placed in the recipient’s yard. The lucky recipient can choose the next house by donating to continue the cause. You may also purchase clover protection for $10. Virtual Claims Clinic set

The Little Rock VA Regional Office’s next Virtual Claims Clinic for Arkansas Veterans is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, May 25. During the upcoming Virtual Claims Clinic, veterans may speak to staff of the Little Rock VA Regional Office who are ready to assist them with specific questions regarding VA benefits claims.

IT HAPPENED HERE YEARS AGO….

1993 Commencement was held for the PHS class of 1993, with comments from honor grads and Donnie Morrison. The Piggott grad was president of a bank at Morrilton at the time. The second annual Heritage Park fishing rodeo is set for the coming weekend, co-sponsored by Piggott Parks and Recreation and the local Kiwanis Club.

Charles Clifford Williams

Charles Clifford Williams, 86, of Horn Beak, Tenn., passed away at his home on May 1, 2023. He was born on February 15, 1937 in Wilson, Ark., to Lynn Elmer Williams and Ida Clifford Clayton Williams. Charles was an active member of the Ridgely Senior Center. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, sightseeing, and bird watching. He was also a supporter of the St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
