Black River Technical College (BRTC) Machine Tool and Technology (MTT) students traveled to the Arkansas SkillsUSA Skill and Leadership Conference in Hot Springs recently to accept medals for competitions won earlier in the month.
The Clay County Cattlemen’s Association regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, May 18, at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Piggott. Guest speakers will be Allison Howell, Clay County Agriculture Agent, University of Arkansas. There will be a potluck meal.
Virginia Louise Guthery Virginia Louise Guthery, 94, of Troy, Ill., passed from this life on Tuesday May 9, 2023, at Aspen Creek Memory Care. She was born on March 19, 1929, in Clay County, Arkansas, to the late Bill and Stella Tinsley Milburn.
Vonna Lou Speer Vonna Lou Speer, 88, of Rector, passed from this world on May 15, 2023. Vonna was born to the late Jesse and Stella (Foster) Burns in Rector.
Ralph Clifton Ralph Clifton of Piggott, Ark., passed away from this life May 12, 2023, at the Arkansas Continued Care facility in Jonesboro, Ark., at the age of 80. He was born on May 20, 1942, in Knobel, Ark., and was the son of the late Ira and Gertrude (Banks) Clifton.
The Piggott School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, May 9 in the administrative office. All board members were present.
By a vast majority of votes, the residents of the City of Piggott extended the one-cent sales to benefit Piggott Community Hospital. There were 105 early votes before Election Day.
The Piggott High School gymnasium will be packed Sunday afternoon as a group of 52 seniors bid farewell to PHS. Commencement will start at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, as the graduates look forward to turning the page and starting the next chapter of their lives.
Special Olympics Arkansas Area 1 began its torch run on Monday, May 15, with the torch being carried by local law enforcement. Officers from all over the state will carry the Flame of Hope in their cities from which the iconic flame will make its way to Little Rock.
Sheriff Ronnie Cole reported that the Clay County Detention Center has officially been cleared to re-open the afternoon of Monday, May 22. “All inmates from Clay County that were incarcerated in the Greene County Jail will be moved back Monday evening to the local jail ”, Cole said. Operations at the jail were suspended in 2021. An open house was held Sunday, May 7 for public viewing.
