Piggott Fourth of July Picnic set
The 96th annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming Celebration kicks-off Monday afternoon, July 3 with the alumni softball games at Independence Park. New this year will be slow-pitch softball for the men.
Armbands on sale for July 4
The carnival will onceagain return for this year’s event, and armbands are on sale now for $35 each. They’ll be $40 after June 30, and at the picnic grounds on July 4. There will be no advanced sale of armbands for Monday, July 3. There is a Monday night special only in which armbands will be $30 and can be purchased at the picnic grounds. Armbands are currently on sale at Fred Ort Insurance Agency, Piggott State Bank, First National Bank-Piggott Banking Center, The Nest, Treasure Chest, Cox Lumber Company and Al Williams and Sons Nursery.
Pageant schedule announced for Pollard Picnic
The annual Pollard Picnic, to benefit the New Hope Cemetery, will be held Saturday, July 8, in Pollard. As usual, this year’s picnic will include fried chicken dinners, music, baseball games, games for children and a full schedule of beauty pageants for contestants of all ages.

Shirley Jean Granger Shirley Jean Granger, 87, a resident of Independence, Mo., until recently moving to The Madison Senior Living, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 22, 2023. She was born May 15, 1936 to Lorne and Velma (Heape) Wallace in Saint Louis, Mo.

1983 The City of Piggott will be conducting a smoke testing of the City Sewer System during the periods of June 27 through August 31, 1983. The C & C Amusement Company will again be providing the carnival rides for this year’s 4th of July Picnic.
Couple announce birth of son
Kathleen Mowery and Michael McMurray announce the birth of their son, Wendell Stephen McMurray Mowery. He was born June 20, 2023, at UAMS in Little Rock. He weighed in at one pound. Grandparents are the late Jim and Vera Mowery of Piggott.
PHS class of 1983 plans 40 year reunion
The PHS class of 1983 will be holding their 40-year class reunion on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Sugar Creek Country Club at 6:30 pm. The cost for attendance is $30.00 per person / $50.00 per couple. The class photo will be taken at 6:45 p.m. sharp! Dinner and live music by Randy Harrington and the Southern Tradition Band will follow. Hotel accommodations at a reduced rate are offered for your personal booking through June 1 at both the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express in Paragould.
