New Hope Baptist Church hosting Vacation Bible School

New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard invites all kids to their Twist and Turns VBS kickoff at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 7. Those attending will enjoy a night of worship, free food, games, and a fun way to kickoff the summer with vacation bible school. Vacation bible school begins today, Wednesday, June 7, and will continue each Wednesday night through July 19. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. This year’s theme is “Twist and Turns” as those attending will spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win. Twist and Turns is a fantastical celebration of games of all kinds. Classes are available for preschool through youth. Those wanting more information may call 870-544-2364.

PHS class of 1983 plans 40 year reunion

The PHS class of 1983 will be holding their 40-year class reunion on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Sugar Creek Country Club at 6:30 pm. The cost for attendance is $30.00 per person / $50.00 per couple. The class photo will be taken at 6:45 p.m. sharp! Dinner and live music by Randy Harrington and the Southern Tradition Band will follow. Hotel accommodations at a reduced rate are offered for your personal booking through June 1 at both the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express in Paragould. Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting set June 11

The annual Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, in the conference room of the Rector Community Center. Anyone with ties to the cemetery is urged to attend and help support the cemetery. Anyone interested in making a donation toward the upkeep of the cemetery may do so at any Regions Bank location to the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery Fund. You may also contact Perry Mills at 870783-0109.

Wintizer recipient of chamber scholarship

After a unique new format for the annual Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet last fall, funds were set aside to honor a local Piggott High School Senior with a Chamber of Commerce Scholarship award. Current Chamber of Commerce Board Members intend to add this scholarship award to the annual budget as an additional way to invest in the community. During the recent meeting of the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Madison “Maddy” Wintizer of the Piggott High School class of 2023 was named as this year’s scholarship recipient and was presented with a $1,000 check.

Anthony Herbert Linam, 88, of Colt, Ark., formerly of Rector, Ark., passed from this life on Saturday, May 27, 2023. He was born on September 21, 1934, to the late Hughy and Mary Davisson Linam.

Piggott City Council holds special meeting regarding Clay County Connect

Piggott City Council held a special meeting at noon on Thursday, June 1 regarding the city using Clay County Connect. Board members Kevin Jones, Jamey Parks and Tracey Cole were present with Jeff Benbrook being absent. Many members of the public and county officials were also present. Councilman Cole had several questions regarding the options, a motion was made by Cole to table the vote until there is time to pursue the options, then choose an option and vote.
