Rector man arrested after fleeing on backhoe

According to a report from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department on May 29, 2023, Clay County deputies observed 40-year-old Rodney Thrasher of Rector driving a backhoe across the yard of a residence on Hwy. 139 in the Leonard Community. The deputies knew he had a warrant out of Piggott. The deputies tried to stop Thrasher on the backhoe, but he fled down a field road. While traveling down different field roads the subject tried ramming the deputy’s truck twice with the backhoe. The deputy was able to get beside the backhoe and oleoresin capsicum spray, or pepper spray, the subject in the side of the face. The subject then traveled about 300 yards and stopped on County Road 513 where he was taken into custody. The subject was transported to the Clay County Detention Center. He was arrested for aggravated assault, criminal mischief, fleeing and possession of controlled substance and the warrant out of Piggott for unlawful distribution of sexual image on recording.

Piggott Summer Reading program begins today

Readers of all ages are invited to participate in the Summer Reading Program at the Piggott Public Library as they present “All Together Now and Bee-ing Kind.” The programs are at 11 a.m. Wednesdays during the month of June. The 2023 Summer Reading Program is open to children of all ages, with prizes, drawings, stories, reading logs, and more. This year the library has an-nounced one of their big prizes is a giant Squishmallow Sunny the Bee pool float. Children will be able to enter their name for a chance to win during each program attended. The drawing for the winner will be held on June 28 at the Kinders concert.

Summer Reading Program begins at Rector Library

The Rector Public Library is geared-up for a busy June and July as the Summer Reading Program returns. This year’s theme is “All Together Now – Kindness – Friendship Unity.” The programs are at 9 a.m. Wednesdays during the month of June and will continue on July 12 and 19. The 2023 Summer Reading Program is open to children of all ages, with prizes, drawings, stories, reading logs, and more.
