Local students named to UCA Dean’s List

The Clay County Cattlemen’s Association regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, June 15, at Cajun Dave’s in Piggott. Guest speakers will be Kelley Washburn and the meal will be provided by Nutrien Ag Solutions.
New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard continues its Vacation Bible School each Wednesday night through July 19. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. This year’s theme is “Twist and Turns” as those attending will spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win. Twist and Turns is a fantastical celebration of games of all kinds. Classes are available for preschool through youth. Those wanting more information may call 870-544-2364.
Students on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists for the spring 2023 semester at Arkansas State University have been announced. The lists recognize undergraduate students who achieved the highest gradepoint averages while completing a minimum of 12 credit hours of study.
The PHS class of 1983 will be holding their 40-year class reunion on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Sugar Creek Country Club at 6:30 pm. The cost for attendance is $30.00 per person / $50.00 per couple. The class photo will be taken at 6:45 p.m. sharp! Dinner and live music by Randy Harrington and the Southern Tradition Band will follow. Hotel accommodations at a reduced rate are offered for your personal booking through June 1 at both the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express in Paragould. A full schedule of pageants from birth to 21 years and up will once again accompany the Piggott 4th of July picnic. The entry fee will be $30 and registration starts 30 minutes prior to pageant start time and sign up will be behind the stage. Ages birth to four years old will be casual dress with ages five and up being pageant dress.
Margaret Ellen Janes, 85, of Springtown, Tex., went to be with the Lord on June 10, 2023. She died peacefully with her children at her side. Born February 17, 1938, Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a strong Christian baptized at the young age of thirteen. A woman who asked for so little but gave so much.
Sarah Lou Smith, 90, of Rector, passed away on June 5, 2023, at Kennett, Mo. Sarah always had a smile and was full of life. She loved her family and they always knew that, especially the grandchildren. Sarah was always active. She and her husband Dale were members of the Square-Dancing Club in their younger years and always enjoyed the fun times there. She was a quilter and enjoyed gardening and sharing that with her family. Sarah belonged to the First United Methodist Church where she was an active member for many years.
Geneva Thomason Holifield, 91, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in Lonoke, Ark., on March 29, 1932, to the late Roy Thomason and Girthel (Pike) Thomason. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Jonesboro.
