Wintizer receives YLTC Scholarship

Each year, Clay County offers a 4-H Youth Leadership Citizenship Program for high school juniors in cooperation with local schools and sponsors. Madelynn Coleman was the recipient of the 2022 Clay County Youth Leadership Citizenship Team Scholarship. Madison Wintizer was chosen as the outstanding youth leader from Piggott High School and was awarded the $1,000 Piggott State Bank Scholarship presented by Cody Knight along with Clay County Extension Agent Christin Holmes. The YLTC Program was established to provide eleventh grade students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills necessary to improve their school environment and encourage them to become actively involved in their communities by volunteering. The participants attend seven workshops where they build self-confidence, team building, trust, accountability, and leadership skills that prepare them to engage the challenges they encounter in life so they can make a positive impact on where they live. Madison Wintizer is the daughter of Misty and Jeff Featherston.

Facilities Review Committee applauds County in jail review

Opinions varied within the county as to the best option or path to the formation of an operational jail, that would meet the Facilities Review Committee’s requirements and standards. The closing of the jail on Oct. 1, 2021, created an added expense to the County’s budget due to the necessity of transporting inmates housed in surrounding counties back and forth to court dates.
