Pageants set for annual St. Francis Picnic

Under the federallyfunded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools. The meals are the same for all children regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. No registration is required for those attending.
The Clay County Extension Office will be hosting two strawberry jam canning workshops for local participants. The first workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 6 at the Clay County Fairground kitchen located at 772 N. Garfield Ave., in Piggott. The second workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 13 at Rector First Baptist Church, 200 S. Stewart St., Rector. Both workshops are limited to six participants and registration is $15. Materials will be provided but participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes. There is still time to get prepared for the Pollard Beauty Pageants which will be held Saturday, July 8, at the Pollard Picnic in Pollard, Ark. The pageant committee announces the following events: Beginning at 10 a.m.
New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard continues its Vacation Bible School each Wednesday night through July 19. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. This year’s theme is “Twist and Turns” as those attending will spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win. Classes are available for preschool through youth. Those wanting more information may call 870544-2364.

An entertaining magic show presented by Joe Mansfield at the Ford Room inside the Rector Community Museum captivated the appreciative audience which included several children and youth. Thursday night’s show featured sleight of hand, prediction, cards, a top hat, wand, and audience participation.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that at 3:17 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, the department went to 315 Gookin Street in Greenway to serve a misdemeanor warrant for failure to pay on 50-year-old Trena Lyon. When they deputies came in contact with the subject, they also conducted a probation search of the residence. After the search was conducted, Lyon was transported to the Clay County Detention Center for felony drug paraphernalia and the misdemeanor warrant.
