Petition drive in support of LEARNS ballot referendum held at Rector
Offering opportunity for local citizens to sign a petition sponsored by Citizens and Parents for Education and Students (CAPES), Ryan Carter of Corning, Shelia Dale, Dianna Brewer along with Karen Nutt of Rector welcomed drive-in signees at the Rector Community Center from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday. The petition requests not an overturn of the LEARNS Act 237-2023, but a position of a Referendum to approve or reject the LEARNS Act on the November 2024 ballot.
Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum hosting art exhibit
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum is now hosting Series 3 of The Veneto of Ernest Hemingway; Across the River into the Trees. The exhibit is comprised of beautiful black and white panels. This exhibit may be in the new exhibit room on the second floor in the museum and will be on display through August. For more information you may contact the museum at 870-598-3487.
Several family histories submitted for Clay Co. book
Several family histories have been submitted for publication in the Clay County, Arkansas – History & Families 150th Anniversary history book according to the 150th Anniversary Book Committee of the Clay County Genealogy and Historical Society.

Local schools continue Summer Feeding Program
Under the federallyfunded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools. The meals are the same for all children regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. No registration is required for those attending.

Sign-ups underway for Rector Labor Day 5K
Runners and walkers are being recruited for the annual Rector Labor Day 5K, set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2. The event, which benefits the RHS Helping Hands Foundation, will begin in front of the Rector High School gymnasium.
