The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum is now hosting Series 3 of The Veneto of Ernest Hemingway; Across the River into the Trees. The exhibit is comprised of beautiful black and white panels. Members of the Piggott School Board met in regular session on Thursday, July 13 in the Piggott School District Administration office with all members present. First on the agenda was the Mohawk Moments, with the board hearing from teacher Stacy Peters and some of the FBLA members who attended na-tionals in Atlanta. The group told of their favorite moments of the trip. Superintendent Freddie Bowen praised the group and teacher for all their accomplishments. Peters informed us there were 15 students who attended.
There was a single ordinance on the agenda to be considered by the Clay County Quorum Court during the July meeting on Monday, July 17 at 7 p.m. at the Eastern District Courthouse in Piggott. Ordinance 2023-17 was an appropriation ordinance to amend the Clay County Annual Budget Ordinance 2022-35 and to appropriate professional development recognition payments and for other purposes. The Professional Development Recognition Payments funded by the State of Arkansas are to qualifying personnel who actively work with property taxes. The lump sum payment of a professional development recognition payment shall not be incorporated into the county base pay of a constitutional officer or a county employee for future salary adjustments. It is subject o withholding or all applicable state and federal taxes, but not subject to retirement benefits. The professional development recognition payments shall not be construed to be part of a county officer’s compensation.
According an Arkansas Department of Transportation news release Highway 1 will be closed beginning Monday, July 17 for two weeks. ARDOT maintenance crews will replace the bridge on Highway 1, three miles east of Highway 62 near Piggott.
In addition to the musical highlights to be offered at the Ford Room on Thursday, July 20, the VIP Meet and Greet will again be a treat. Mavis Smith Auction Company will again donate a light buffet supper for VIP ticket holders. It has been a remarkable journey for the Sugar Creek group. Rector music lovers will enjoy so-cializing with the men and discussing their career and talent.
At the Rector City Council meeting on July 11 held at the Rector Community Center at 6 p.m., the Council addressed issues that were referred to Kimberly Dale, City Attorney, for further attention. Prior to the meeting’s agenda, Mayor Shawn Brandon acknowledged people in the audience who wished to address the Council.
