Visiting girl stuck in attic
Family praises local first responders Emergency responders from the Piggott Fire Department, Piggott Health Systems EMS and Piggott Police Department were called to the residence of Duane and Annette Dutka in the morning hours of July 3, as a visiting great niece was stuck in the attic of their home. Nine-year-old Cassidy Mowery, daughter of Andrew and Jenie Mowery of Memphis, was one of several children and adults visiting for the Fourth of July holiday.
BRTC announces GED graduation date
Black River Technical College will hold the 2023 GED graduation ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 20 in the Randolph County Development Center on the Pocahontas Campus.
Golf tournament set
The sixth annual Mohawk Football Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, July 27, at the Sugar Creek Country Club and is being hosted by the Piggott Mohawk Football Boosters. Tee off is set for 9 a.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event is a 18 hole four-person scramble and is limited to 18 teams. Lunch will be provided.

Local youth takes on 50 yard challenge
Mahan completes mission in record time Fourteen year old Piggott youth, Jonah Mahan, has taken on the challenge of mowing 50 yards for free. This challenge is from the Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Service started by Rodney Smith, Jr.

Clay County Sheriff’s Department May monthly report 05-01-2023 Rodney Rhodes of Piggott was cited on failure to pay fines and no insurance. 05-02-2023 David Patrick Adams of Jacksonville Fla., cited on carless prohibited driving.
OHP Vendor’s Market open house and ribbon cutting set for Saturday
Saturday, July 22, 10 a.m. will be the time for excitement and food at the Open House and Ribbon Cutting for Rector’s newest retail operation OHP Vendor’s Market. There will be sales going on inside the establishment and a food truck will be parked outside. “It’s good for our town,” commented Leigh Ann Jones, owner of Our Happy Place Vendor’s Market and OHP Nutrition. The ribbon cutting is being hosted by the Rector Area Chamber of Commerce.


Annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic held
Cooler than normal temperatures greeted generations of current and former residents, along with visitors and friends for the 96th annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming Celebration. The annual picnic, which serves to provide continued maintenance and upkeep for the local cemetery, kicked-off Monday evening with the first four pageants, along with an armband night on the midway, and the Mohawk Alumni Baseball Game at Independence Park.
