Ronald “Ronnie” Gene Brown

Ronald “Ronnie” Gene Brown, age 81, of Paragould, Ark., passed away at Phil & Flo Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. He was born On December 7, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Virgil Brown and Cletus (Huckabay) Brown Presson of Rector. Ronnie was of the Baptist faith and a certified welder.

Salary schedules approved at Rector School Board meeting

With all school board members present at the July 10 Rector School Board meeting on Monday evening at 5:30 p.m., in the Administrative Building, the board handled a light agenda. Superintendent Johnny Fowler advised the board that Principal Mark Manchester attended the dinner meeting and presentation of North Area Co-op Teacher of the Year for elementary teacher Lauren Dorman.

Annual picnic held at Pollard

Favorable weather and good crowds were the order of the day Saturday, July 8, as the 90th annual Pollard Picnic was held. Each year the event is held at the picnic grounds in Pollard, with the proceeds benefiting the continued upkeep of the New Hope Cemetery.

Gary Prince and Sugar Creek headline Ford Room

At last, at long last, finally – Joey Pruett and Gary Prince have coordinated schedules and the Sugar Creek Band will make its first appearance at the Ford Room at 7 p.m., on July 20, the third-Thursday concert night inside the Rector Community Museum located on Main Street in Rector. Pruett commented, “I’ve been trying to book this group for a couple of years. The RCM Board and I are excited to offer this concert to the public. Call me (870-595-4053) for more information and tickets.” Jim Howard who is featured on percussion and with vocals shared that Gary Prince and Sugar Creek began playing together in the 1980’s, playing country music by Merle Haggard, Earl Thomas Conley, Exile, and others before they took a fifteen- year hiatus. In the customary lingo, they decided to get the boys back together – get the band back together. In 2003, they reconnected to play the music they love.
