Annual fishing rodeo set Sept. 9 in Piggott

The City of Piggott Parks and Recreation and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is set to host the 2023 annual family fishing rodeo at Heritage Park. This year’s rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 9. The event is open to those 15 and under. Organizers note only one pole may be used for each competitor, and there is a three fish limit. Arkansas fishing licenses are required for adults.

A hallelujah kind of night held at the Ford Room in Rector

Thursday night, Aug. 17, the Rector Community Museum presented another hit show with the Lake Street Gospel Band on the Ford Room stage, singing and playing old-time gospel choruses. Along with a buffet supper for a sold-out VIP ticket, the crowd mingled in the Showroom and the Farm Room, greeting friends, neighbors, and fellow church members. Those who watch the concerts live-streamed may tap their toes to the music, but they miss fantastic food and great humor. In this Thursday night concert, the audience responded to the music which contained “sermon songs,” stories and testimonies of life struggles set to music with an uplifting message.

Bluegrass & Fried Chicken festival planned at Ozark Folk Center

The Ozark Folk Center State Park will host its Bluegrass & Fried Chicken festival this Friday, Aug. 25 and Saturday, Aug. 26 at the park’s indoor Ozark Highlands Theater, 1032 Park Ave., Mountain View. Tickets are $25 for Friday evening’s show, $35 for two shows on Saturday, or $50 for both days. Tickets can be purchased at OzarkFolkCenter.Ticketleap.com.
