All during August, National Wellness Month focuses on self-care, managing stress and promoting healthy routines. Research has shown self-care helps manage stress and promotes happiness. Striving to create a positive, healthy lifestyle and inspiring others to do the same is a good way to focus on wellness.
When David and Liz Richey came before the congregation early in 2023 at Rector First Baptist Church (RFBC), they were prepared to field any unanswered questions as a prospective pastor. They were surprised as a youngster listening to the exchanges raised his hand.
The Clay County Extension Homemakers Council hosted a Delta District Ice Cream Social at the First General Baptist Family Life Center in Piggott on Wednesday, Aug. 16. The event was a musical 50’s theme which included an ice cream bar. Jeanette Hall, Piggott-Hamlet’s Service EHC Club President, and Stewart Runsick, Clay County Ag Agent/Staff Chair, began the opening of the event, followed by Clay County FCS Agent Christin Holmes. After members were served ice cream, guest speaker Autumn Turner, Director of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum, shared history about the Museum with its stories. The EHC members enjoyed the opportunity to socialize with other Delta EHC members and partake in optional Diamond Dot Art put on by the Gosnell EHC members Rhoda and Alicia Yost or Butterfly Origami given by our very own Cody Begemann from Clay County. Additionally, several participants toured the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum. Autumn and Buddy were our wonderful guides for the tour, and we appreciated them tremendously. Moreover, Clay County EHC is thankful for all the planning our new Delta District EHC President Rhonda Bogoslawski put in to make this an amazing and fun time!
The Piggott Community Hospital EMS was the recipient of the EMS Service of the Year award at the Arkansas Ambulance Association (ArAA) annual meeting and awards banquet held in Hot Springs on Saturday, Aug. 5.
Ron Kemp has been named to the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2023. He is well known for his contributions to the community and to the community’s athletic programs.
1983 The Piggott Florist girls’ softball team officially ended their 1983 season as the Tri-County champs in a playoff against the Rector Blue Jays. The teams were tied for first with a 16-2 record.

The Rector High School Class of 1963 will celebrate their 60th class reunion at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2, 2, at the Rector First United Methodist Church Educational Building, located at 116 W. Third St., Rector.
Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner note it’s that time of year again. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.
The 6th Annual Runnin’ Scared 5K will be hosted at Pumpkin Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 16. The racecourse will be a mix of road and offroad running. Runners will run through a local cemetery and through the grounds of Pumpkin Hollow. “Who knows…you may find a few “friends” along the way as well! Be sure to bring your flashlights or head lamps as the race will take place after dark,” a spokesperson commented The race will start at 8 p.m. and registration is underway at www.runsignup.com/ Race/AR/Piggot/ RunninScared5k.
