CC Jr. Fair Board plans craft show

The Clay County Junior Fair Board will be hosting a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at the commercial building on the Clay County Fairgrounds. Vendor fee is set at $35 with community entry fee being a small donation to the Clay County Junior Fair Board Scholarship Fund. Small concessions will be available. Tickets for Rector Labor Day $1000 drawing available

With the approach of the Labor Day holiday, the Woodland Heights Cemetery Commission is once again conducting a $1,000 drawing as a fundraiser. The drawing will take place on Monday, Sept. 4, on the main stage at the Rector Memorial Park following the Miss Rector Pageant. Persons do not have to be present to win. Once again this year tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 25 for $20. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic and are also available at several area busi-nesses. Rector businesses include Above & Beyond, Big Time Pizza, Caffeinated Cow, Centennial Bank, Glen Sain Motor Sales, GPS Chiropractic, Graves Gin, OHP-Our Happy Place, Piggott Pharmacy, Piggott State Bank-Rector Branch, Rector Downtown Drug, and The Vintage Junkie.

Rector Labor Day pageant schedule set

In keeping with event tradition, a full slate of pageants will be held in conjunction with the 2023 edition of the Rector Labor Day Picnic. This year’s pageants are scheduled for both Sunday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 4, on the beauty revue stand of Memorial Park. Pageant organizer Jade Simpson noted that the Petite Miss, Preteen Miss and Junior Miss Rector pageants are closed to Rector students only until Aug. 25. “If we do not have enough participants by the deadline, we will then open the pageants to others,” commented Simpson.

Lunch & Learn set at HPMEC

Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center is partnering with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture to present a Lunch & Learn Series at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, with the topic being Butterfly Gardening. The free event is planned at HPMEC and a light lunch will be provided. For more information you may contact the museum at 870-598-3487.

Katie Betty Sue Billings

Katie Betty Sue Billings, 81, of Corning, Ark.,, passed away August 12, 2023, at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. She was born on July 27, 1942, in Corning, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Lewis and Genevieve (White) Barker.
