Clay County Quorum court met in regular session on Monday, Sept. 18, at the court house in Piggott with Justice David Cagle absent.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department was notified at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 by the Poplar Bluff, Mo., Police Department to be on the lookout for a black metallic Dodge Avenger with two black females. Poplar Bluff PD stated they were in pursuit of the vehicle but terminated their pursuit. They asked the CCSD if they came in contact with them to stop and hold them for Poplar Bluff Police Department. Poplar Bluff said the females were caught stealing from Carter’s in Poplar Bluff and fled. A Clay County deputy went north of Corning to the intersection of U.S. 67 and Highway 328 to watch for the subjects.
A win has been a long time coming for the Piggott Mohawk football teams after both the Junior High and Senior High finished last season winless. The streak was finally broken Thursday night as the Piggott Junior Mohawks hosted the Manila Junior Lions.
Piggott vs Crowley’s Ridge Academy On Monday, Sept. 18, the Piggott Lady Mohawks versed the Crowley’s Ridge Academy Lady Falcons. The teams that played were Junior High A, and Senior High B and A. Junior High A played first as usual and went for two sets. The first set was a score of 7-35 and in the second set the Lady Mohawks lost the game with a score of 23-25.
The Rector Cougars traveled to Corning on Friday, Sept. 15 to take on the Bobcats who were looking for their third win.
Black River Area Development Corporation has announced the Summer Entergy Assistance Program will close Friday, Sept. 29, 2023. Program coordinators report applications for Summer Energy Assistance will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. In turn, the applications will be processed until it appears the funds have been fully depleted.
