The melodies of the NEA Chorale are set to resonate once again as they mark the beginning of an exciting new season. The Chorale, renowned for its vibrant and diverse vocal performances, invites singers of all ages to join their ranks for a season of musical excellence and camaraderie.
A demolition derby will be held Saturday, Sept.16 in conjunction with the Clay County Fair. The event will be held at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Peewee starts at 6:30 p.m. and the adult competition at 7 p.m. Those who want more information may call Rick Hardy at 573-344-1110.
The annual Clay County Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.
September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Piggott Public Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the valuable resources available with a library card.
The 43rd annual Maynard Pioneer Days is set Thursday, Sept. 14 through Saturday, Sept. 16. They’ll kick things off this year with “School Night” at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Pioneer Park and Museum. The festivities continue on Friday with craft booths, food and a free concert by Cory Jackson at 7 p.m. The annual parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, with other activities including a turkey shoot at 1 p.m. There will also be crafts, concessions, blacksmithing demonstrations and music from Dixon Street. The Clay County Fair is set for Sept. 13 to 16, and commercial booths are now available for rental. The booths are indoor, air condi-tioned and include electrical hook-ups. A special exhibit featuring the likeness of Ernest Hemingway will be available from Sept. 1 through Oct. 20 at Arkansas State University Museum. The exhibit is open 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturdays.
The 6th Annual Runnin’ Scared 5K will be hosted at Pumpkin Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 16. The racecourse will be a mix of road and off-road running. Runners will run through a local cemetery and through the grounds of Pumpkin Hollow. “Who knows…you may find a few “friends” along the way as well! Be sure to bring your flashlights or head lamps as the race will take place after dark,” a spokesperson commented The race will start at 8 p.m. and registration is underway at www.runsignup.com/ Race/AR/Piggot/ RunninScared5k. Deadline to be guaranteed a shirt is Sept. 1.
The schedule for the 2023 Clay County Fair has been set. This year’s fair will kick-off with the usual pageants on Saturday, Sept. 9, although the majority of events are being held Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 13 to 16.
