Sugar Creek Country Club will host the Hemingway in Venice event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. The night will begin with a beautiful black and white photography exhibit of Hemingway’s time in Venice. Special speaker for the event will be Robert K. Elder, author of ‘Hemingway in Comics’ and he will also be holding a book signing. Tickets for the event are $40 per person. Natalie Huffins of Marmaduke has been awarded the RiverBank Scholarship made possible by funding from RiverBank. Huffins is a 2023 graduate of Marmaduke High School.
Piggott High School will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3. The drive will be held in the PHS Library and is open to the public. Donors are asked to call 1-800-7332767 or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter Piggott High School to schedule an appointment.
Rector School District will hold parent/teacher conferences from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28. Par-ents are encouraged to attend to meet with their child’s teacher to check on their progress.
In response to popular demand, the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a fall city wide yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 7. As with the spring event, the yard sale fee will be waived by the City of Piggott for that day and a list of participating locations will be available from the Chamber of Commerce. The Rector junior and senior high girls basketball teams are holding a community calendar fundraiser. The calendar will consist of birthdays, anniversaries, memorials, etc. and will be available for purchase later this year. The cost to have dates included will be $5.00 per each date listed.
