The Piggott Community Alliance is hosting their annual “trunk or treat” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. As in previous years, the event is slated to be held around the courthouse square in Piggott. Organizers indicated that the event is open to anyone who would like to come and hand out candy.
Gaye (Winstead) Wiley, a seventy-year resident of Piggott, will turn ninetyyears- young this year. Her children, Rhonda Wiley-Jones, Gary Wiley, and Bruce Wiley, will host a birthday party in her honor on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center.
Piggott Farmers Market will host a Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at the First National Bank Pavilion. The festival will feature food, crafts, and giveaways. Live music will be provided from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. by Electric Voodoo Explosion. The market will be open as usual from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27.
A hunter education course will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 19 and 20 and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Piggott Rod and Gun Club. Participants must attend all three classes, also participants 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required. Park Cemetery, located 2 miles west of Rector, is in need of donations for the upkeep of the cemetery. “If you have loved ones buried at the cemetery we would appreciate your donation,” com-mented a spokesperson. Piggott First Methodist Church is currently accepting donations of new/gently used winter coats through Saturday, Oct. 14. Items being accepted are warm coats, winter jackets and waterproof outerwear for children (boys and girls), all sizes. Monetary donations are also being accepted. Drop off locations include Jim Watson Real Estate, Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce office, Sugar Creek Country Club, Cajun Dave’s, Piggott Community Center and the Piggott Public Library. Items will be distributed Sunday, Oct. 15 at the church’s free community dinner.
Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) Trap & Skeet Club finished the Fall 2023 USACollege Clay Target League season with two students placing in the 1A-2 conference. Brayden Tarantino of Pocahontas placed 2nd overall.
