Black River Technical College (BRTC) traditional registered nursing (TRN) students recently created study guides on white T-shirts to help them study for an upcoming test. Nursing Instructor Kelsie Cagle assigned the activity to the TRN students as a way to drive home the assessment techniques that students will need to get used to doing on their patients.

Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced the second annual Pig-gott Smoked BBQ Cook-Off set for Saturday, Oct. 21. Teams are slated to compete for cash and trophies—not to mention bragging rights. The day will also include live music, a cornhole tournament, bouncy houses for the kids, vendors and prizes as the sweet smell of barbecue will fill the air. Everyone is invited to attend.

Sugar Creek Country Club will host the Hemingway in Venice event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. The night will begin with a beautiful black and white photography exhibit of Hemingway’s time in Venice. Special speaker for the event will be Robert K. Elder, author of ‘Hemingway in Comics’ and he will also be holding a book signing. Tickets for the event are $40 per person. Arkansas State University has been named a Military Friendly School (MFS) for 2023-24 and has achieved a gold-level ranking for the second year in a row. A-State has been on the list 13 times before.

Chancellor Todd Shields announced a new scholarship program providing free tuition to Arkansas State University for the majority of Arkansas families, the A-State Promise Plus. “Arkansas State is committed to easing the financial burden for these hard-working families as they seek to send their children to college,” Shields said at an oncampus event announcing university achievements and the new scholarship plan.
