Pig-gott Smoked BBQ Cook-Off set Oct. 21

Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced the second annual Pig-gott Smoked BBQ Cook-Off set for Saturday, Oct. 21. Teams are slated to compete for cash and trophies—not to mention bragging rights. The day will also include live music, a cornhole tournament, bouncy houses for the kids, vendors and prizes as the sweet smell of barbecue will fill the air. Everyone is invited to attend.

SCCC to host Hemingway event

Sugar Creek Country Club will host the Hemingway in Venice event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. The night will begin with a beautiful black and white photography exhibit of Hemingway’s time in Venice. Special speaker for the event will be Robert K. Elder, author of ‘Hemingway in Comics’ and he will also be holding a book signing. Tickets for the event are $40 per person. Interested persons may contact the museum at 870598-1637 to reserve tickets.

A-State Promise Plus program offers free tuition to most

Chancellor Todd Shields announced a new scholarship program providing free tuition to Arkansas State University for the majority of Arkansas families, the A-State Promise Plus. “Arkansas State is committed to easing the financial burden for these hard-working families as they seek to send their children to college,” Shields said at an oncampus event announcing university achievements and the new scholarship plan.
