Saturday sounds from Downtown Rector kept excitement high at the annual Downtown Marketplace held Oct. 14, sponsored by Rector Downtown Central and held at the Main Street Downtown Park. Cotton module and grain carrying trucks rumbled up and down Main Street (Hwy. 90) and the generator at the Hog Heaven Bar-b-que truck became familiar as shoppers and vendors enjoyed a chilly but productive day. A few pairs of solareclipse glasses came out about eleven o’clock and were shared so everyone who wanted to see the partial annular eclipse could do so. To aid viewing, clouds began to move into the area ahead of chillier weather and a later solid bank of clouds. A service dog in training captured attention and showed off his doggie-shoes and special vest. Decorative fall items and plenty of jams, jellies, breads, pies, cakes, and sticky buns were available for sampling and buying. Vendors and shoppers enjoyed the day with donations going to Rector Downtown Central to continue programming for inviting residents to enjoy the downtown Pocket Park, the Rector Community Museum, new businesses, and other activities.
