Bill Mayo, 96 of Piggott, Ark., entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Bill was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Chlodean Eskew Mayo.

Rector Cougars open season play against Trumann

The Rector Cougars basketball teams opened season play on Tuesday, Nov. 14, sending out the Junior-B team, Junior-A team, and the Senior High boys team, minus three seniors who are still in football competition. The Junior-B team froze out the opponent as the seconds ticked down and came away with a 25 – 24 win against the Trumann Wildcats with Isaac Phillips and Eli Hamm making solid contributions. The Junior-A team clicked on the speed button and fired up the 3-machine in the first minutes, pulling in front by 11 – 2 over Trumann’s Junior Wildcat team. The halftime score was 22 – 15 with the Cougars in the lead. Gabe Prince, Ford Mills, Marcus Moody along with Collin Jetton led the charge along with Ben Schimming, securing the 50 – 31 victory.

Sweater drive ends Nov. 30 at local libraries

Piggott Public Library and Rector Public Library in conjunction with Arkansas PBS are hosting a Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. The local libraries will be collecting new and gently used sweaters and other cold weather items. Collection boxes are available in Piggott at the library and the Chamber of Commerce office and at the library in Rector.
