Local libraries hosting sweater drive

Piggott Public Library and Rector Public Library in conjunction with Arkansas PBS are hosting a Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. The local libraries will be collecting new and gently used sweaters and other cold weather items. Collection boxes are available in Piggott at the library and the Chamber of Commerce office and at the library in Rector. Piggott Public Library will distribute items to the community on Dec. 2 at the Christmas on the Square event.

Tree walk planned at HPMEC Nov. 4

An informational tree walk is planned by Clay County Extension Agent Stewart Runsick at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott. Those attending are encouraged to wear their walking shoes and meet at the visitor parking lot located at 1021 West Cherry St. During the walk those in attendance will learn the identity and discuss some of Piggott’s magnificent trees which include 15 different species. Some of the trees are over 150 years old and their history, origin, use and age will be discussed. Those needing more information may contact the Extension office in Corning at 870-8576875.
