Time has flown by for me since my last Welcome Center update. Over this past month I have been out and about working at mobile Welcome Centers from the AAAGreat Vacations Travel Expo in Columbus, Ohio to the Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock to right here in Corning during the Harvest Festival.
Agronomy and agricultural economics are among the topics on the agenda for the 2024 winter production meetings in Arkansas for corn, cotton, rice and soybeans. “These are opportunities that give farmers a chance to improve on the previous year’s crop with face-to-face meetings with extension agronomists and agricultural economists and other experts from the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture,” said Jerry Clemons, who oversees the 25-county Delta District for the Cooperative Extension Service in the Division of Agriculture.
Submissions for the upcoming Great A-State Media Fest, which will be held in April, open on Dec. 11.
It’s time for the highly anticipated annual Tour of Homes sponsored by the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center. This year the featured homes are Kevin and Julia Jones located at 1060 West Main, the home of Cristal Foulk-Frederich which is at 756 North Royal Road and the home of Fred and Kecia Ort located at 680 West Main.
When the Christmas season is ushered in with the Rector Christmas Parade set for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, multiple opportunities for engaging with family will be available. Rector Downtown Central will set aside an area in the new Pocket Park on Main Street for friend and family photographs. In the Downtown Park, a banner will announce the season to all who drive by the park. In addition, Dars Sign Me Up will decorate an area of the Downtown Park with a “Merry Christmas, Rector” message. All signage is arranged to encourage photos and photographers.
Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the fifth annual 12 Days of Christmas slated to begin Saturday, Dec. 2 with the Christmas Fest and the Christmas Parade. The fest will start at noon and continue until 4:30 p.m. with the parade starting at 5 p.m.
