Deadline nears for DHS Christmas project
The Clay County Department of Human Services is now accepting applications from families for their annual Christmas assistance project. Applications will be accepted through Thursday, Nov. 30, at the DHS office in Piggott or at 1st Choice Healthcare in Corning.
HPMEC to host fruit cake workshop
Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center will host a fruit cake workshop at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 4. Instructor for the workshop will be Suzie Morris. Fee for the class is $10 and space is limited to 15 par-ticipants. Persons interested may register by calling the museum at 870-598-1637. “This is a family recipe and Suzie says she gets in trouble with other family members when referencing where the recipe comes from. Her Aunt Ruby Wellman and Aunt Opal Rodery both made this delicious treat. Suzie also added that her mother used to make the cakes every year for the customers at the oil company,” stated HPMEC Director Shannon Williams.

1983 The Christmas season is here as evidenced by the installation of holiday lighting this week by city electrical employee Dewey Holcomb. The lights are going up in time for the big Christmas parade, which is being held Monday night.
Santa Claus to visit Bootheel Youth Museum
The Bootheel Youth Museum’s annual Christmas celebration Pancakes with Santa will be from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 (everyone in line as of 10 a.m. will get to visit Santa). Visit the winter wonderland and join Santa for pancakes, a photo, a stuffed animal and children Pre-K through sixth grade can visit the Kids Only Gift Shop. This event is free to the public but donations are welcome.
