Almarita McGlown Almarita McGlown, 86, of Piggott, Ark., passed away from pneumonia November 5, 2023, at Piggott Community Hospital. She was surrounded by family as she was reunited with Jesus and her loved ones that have passed on.
Barry Eugene Broadway Barry Eugene Broadway of Valdosta, Ga., passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023 at his residence. Born on November 11, 1957, Barry was known for his unwavering love of sports and exceptional athletic abilities.
Each summer, the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott hosts a writerin- residence position. The residency will take place during the entire month of June and includes lodging at a loft apartment in downtown Piggott.

Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) Board of Trustees held a special meeting recently on the Pocahontas BRTC campus. A resolution to accept a Delta Regional Authority workforce training expansion grant was approved.
Piggott Public Library and Rector Public Library in conjunction with Arkansas PBS are hosting a Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. The local libraries will be collecting new and gently used sweaters and other cold weather items. Collection boxes are available in Piggott at the library and the Chamber of Commerce office and at the library in Rector. Piggott Public Library will distribute items to the community on Dec. 2 at the Christmas on the Square event.
In a letter dated Oct. 30, 2023 addressed to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, the Clay County Sheriff’s Department received appreciation regarding their assistance in the apprehension of a felony fugitive out of St. Charles County, Missouri. The letter, written by Captain David Tiefenbrunn, Bureau Commander - Criminal Investigations of the St. Charles County Police Department, described that on Oct. 25, 2023, their department was attempting to locate Matthew McMenamy who was wanted on felony harassment charges stemming from a series of threats he made towards one of the department’s detectives, the detective’s family and their business. Further, McMenamy was making terroristic threats on his Facebook page and alluded to an event he was planning that would gain national attention. McMenany also made serious physical threats against his parents, as he believed they were acting as government agents against him. The threats on Facebook reached a pinnacle on Oct. 25, 2023 when he began a countdown to this significant event.
It’s time for Rector and surrounding area to shop ‘til the selling stops at the Rector Craft Fair held annually at the Rector Community Center with shops opening at 9 a.m. on Nov. 18, always the third Saturday in November.
