Piggott businessman and longtime community activist, Danny Brown, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at the age of 77.
The Piggott School Board held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 11 in the administration office with a full quorum. With a light agenda, the first order of business was Superintendent Freddie Bowen present-ing the Mohawk Moments. Bowen informed of the achievements of various achievements in the month of November.
At the Rector School Board meeting on Monday, Dec. 11, at 5:30 p.m., in the Administration Building, Superintendent Johnny Fowler announced to those present at the meeting, President Jody Simmons, Secretary Kirk Ford, and Chase Sain, that the Rector Preschool continues to draw praise throughout the community and beyond.

SENATOBIA, MS - Jackson Hill of Rector has been recognized as one of the top tier students at Northwest Mississippi Community College by earning a place on the President’s List for academic work in the Fall 2023 semester. The President’s list recognizes those students who earn a semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 or higher. This semester Jackson is among one of over 800 outstanding fulltime students to be recognized for their work.
‘Storytime with Santa’ will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22 at Piggott United Pentecostal Church located at 826 East Main Street. Everyone is invited to hear Santa and Mrs. Claus as they tell the Christmas story and sing a few of his favorite Christmas songs. Those attending will receive free hot cocoa, cookies, and a candy cane. “Santa will be waiting, so come enjoy the fun,” a church spokesperson commented.
