Black River Technical College (BRTC) Career and Technical Center (CTC) welding students enrolled from BRTC @ The Armory in Piggott recently toured The Greenbrier Companies’ Paragould location. BRTC welding instructor and Greenbrier employee Steven Kiker, set up the tour to give his students a closeup experience of what working at the welding company would be like.
Nicole (Foster) Beirne of Alexander, Ark., a graduate of Piggott High School, walked across the stage to receive her doctorate from the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Sunday, Dec. 9.
On Wednesday night, Dec. 6, the annual Piggott Mohawk Football awards night was held.
Rector High School has invested resources and capital in the Carrer and Technical path to post-secondary education. Career Counselor Kathy Fowler interacts with students across the high school grade levels regarding potential careers in the technical field, but is heavily involved with the junior and senior classes.
At the monthly Rector City Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 4, held at the Rector Community Center, the Council heard updates on continuing Council business. The first item announced was the long-time coming demolition of the structure at 620 W. 6th Street. Mayor Shawn Brandon and Superintendent Todd Watson notified Coun-cil that the structure was down on the ground and Fire Chief Steve Ward advised that the rubble would be burned on Thursday, Dec. 7, in compliance with new State ordinances regarding the burning of condemned structures.
Dateline: Friday, December 1, 2023. 6:00 p.m. 5th Street, Rector, AR When Rector High School Cougar fans read the full Facebook stream about the Nov. 30 Championship game at Little Rock’s War Memorial Stadium and found that, indeed, Rector Cougars were bringing home a State Championship in football, it was the focus of conversations throughout town. Accolades for players, coaches, cheerleaders, recollections of the monsoon- like rains the fans and cheerleaders experienced, smiles and pride showed on faces as they started the day.
A challenge that circulated through the party game circuit asked, “What have you seen lately that you’ve never seen before?” Well, I’ve got an answer for you, and it is a doozie. Never had I seen the Rector Cougars play football in such inclement weather.
