JR Rogers purchases former dinner theater

In the aftermath of the devastating 2017 flood that wreaked havoc on Randolph County and the subsequent global COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, the Imperial Dinner Theatre on Highway 304 in Pocahontas has stood as a haunting reminder of the two crises. However, hope has dawned on this inactive structure as local musician and entrepreneur JR Rogers stepped in to breathe new life into the decaying theater.

My Valentine’s Shoppe planned

My Valentine’s Shoppe event is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Piggott Community Center located at 161 E. Pfeiffer St. Photography, crafts, food, and much more will be offered along with raffling of prizes. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Feb. 10. Superintendent’s contract extended at Rector School Board meeting

At the regular monthly meeting of Rector School Board on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Administration building, the board, Kirk Ford being absent, unanimously extended Superintendent Johnny Fowler’s contract to fulfill the customary threeyear appointment. Superintendent Fowler presented the district financial report during the early portion of the meeting. He noted that two CDs related to the building fund, one the District CD and one the Construction bond CD, are included in the building fund total of $4,512,852,46. The Operating fund balance is $1,353,522.19. The total fund balance when adding the cafeteria fund and Federal fund accounts totaled $5,9974,462.32 for December, 2023.

Court date postponed for Piggott women

According to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, the court date for Joyce Parks and Rhonda Parks has been postponed to April 12 at the request of their attorney. The Piggott Police Department obtained felony warrants for the two women on Sept. 19, 2023, for first degree false imprisonment, terroristic threatening and third degree domestic battery involving two juveniles.

Rector Cougar basketball holiday highlights

While the Christmas holiday fun and New Year’s revelry were being enjoyed and decorations along with lighting were slowly being removed, the Rector basketball teams and coaches were in the gym, practicing. Cookies, candy, short day-trips, relatives, and various cousins may disrupt healthy diets and routines, but coaches manage to interject the special holidays away from school and work with 2-a-day practices and refinement of skill play.
