Piggott City Council hears hospital audit report

Piggott City Council met at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22 at city hall with all members present. First on the agenda, James Magee, the executive director of Piggott Community Hospital, introduced Harry Hutchison the acting chief financial officer of PCH, who gave the Piggott Community Hospital audit. Hutchison informed those in attendance that the Piggott Hospital is one of the busiest critical access hospitals in Arkansas and is in the top two or three out of 29 hospitals.

Piggott School Board meets, tables hiring of head football coach

The Piggott School Board met on Thursday, Feb. 15, with a full quorum. In the Mohawk Moments, Superintendent Freddie Bowen shared photos of the special needs prom night that was held in Jonesboro and commended the FBLA for their fundraiser “Cookies for a Cause.” The reading of the previous meeting was waived and financials were approved and updates of the academic reports in high school and elementary school were presented. In student board to board transfers, Bowen reported there are three current Piggott students who will be moving to the Rector School District temporarily, these students will be allowed to remain students of the Piggott School District through an agreement with both school districts.

QC meets with light agenda

The Clay County Quorum Court met with a light agenda for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Western District Courthouse in Corning at 7 p.m. Justices David Cagle and Neal “Poppy” Smith were not in attendance. With there being no new business to discuss, Judge Mike Patterson said, “We don’t have a lot on the agenda tonight and that’s kind of unusual, but the law requires that we have so many meetings a year and I’d just like to say that between the ice storm we had and the different temperatures we had in the roads, it’s been a very interesting few days.”

Gerald Belote Gerald Belote, 82, of Piggott, Ark., passed away February 16, 2024, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. He was born on September 21, 1941, in Rector, Ark., and was the son of Ophir and Vestal (Bolton) Belote.
