Emmanuel Baptist Church of Piggott will host its annual Easter celebration with a full schedule of special events and activities this weekend. The church, located at 829 East North Street at the corner of North Johnson Street, will kick things off this Friday at 6 p.m. with the traditional carry the cross. Everyone is invited to join in as members of the congregation carry the cross from the Piggott square to the church.
Unaware of each other’s ideas, five people, at separate times, wrote personal testimonies on behalf of local philanthropist, auction owner, volunteer, and angel to many, Mavis Smith, for Channel 8’s recognition through the Great Acts of Kindness program. Melinda Dillon of Paragould, Pat Mabrey, Ken Price, Carolyn Barker, and Jane Gatewood of Rector found the link on the Channel 8 website where a short recommendation could be typed in support of a person viewed as an example of Great Acts of Kindness in the Region 8 area.
Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently awarded the Greenbrier Technical/Vocational scholarship to Tony Millsap of Rector. Millsap is a 2021 graduate of Rector High School and the son of Tony Millsap of Rector and Billy Millsap of Piggott.
Marian Janet Roeder Marian Janet Roeder, 91, of Piggott, Ark., passed away March 20, 2024. She was born February 17, 1933, in Waverly, Iowa, to the late Dorothy (Russell) Heidbreder and Lloyd Herbert Heidbreder.
Clark Dennis Glass Clark Dennis Glass, 65, of Black Rock, Ark., passed away at his home on March 8, 2024. He was born on August 5, 1958 in Piggott, Ark., to Walter and Joann (Yow) Glass.
Carl Doyne (“CD”) Parrish Carl Doyne (“CD”) Parrish of Paragould, Ark., passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the age of sixty-five years old. CD was born in Fort Smith, Ark., on January 30, 1959, to Doyne Parrish of Rector, Ark., and Peggy Barlow of Piggott, Ark.
Veterans from across southeast Missouri and northeast Arkansas are invited to attend an informational town hall to learn about services available to them and have their questions about VA health care answered.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reported that on Friday, March 15, the department conducted a probation search at 5275Hwy. 141, Corning. The department came in contact with 26-year-old Walter Russom of the residence. Russom is on felony probation with a search waiver on file. After the search of his bedroom, Russom was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center.
Piggott School Board had two longtime members decide not to run for re-election when their terms ended. Brad Dunlap retired last year, but came back to fill in for the remaining term of member Jim Threatt who resigned before his term was up. Chris Roberts, who was the current board president, decided not to run this year when his term ended. Both men served the district for 10 years, with Dunlap having an additional six months filling in for Threatt.
