Rep. Rick Crawford searching for student artist to represent district

A colored pencil drawing of combat boots draped with dog tags, a painting reflecting the anxiety a student felt during COVID, and hundreds of torn magazine pieces glued to create a portrait of a basketball player, all winning artworks previously chosen by Representative Rick Crawford to represent Arkansas’s First District in a national artwork display in Washington D.C.

Lady Cougars take on Thunderbirds and Greyhounds in double-header action

Double-headers dominated the softball fare recently, the games played on pretty prespring afternoons at the Rector Sports Complex. Cross County and Marmaduke brought the competition for Rector Lady Cougars. On Monday, March11 the Cross County Thunderbirds hit and fielded well but the Lady Cougars circled the bases for an 8 – 5 game-one victory. The second game resulted in an 18 – 17 loss for the Lady Cougars in extra innings.

Proudest Kid essay winners named

Once again, the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored the “Proudest Kid in Piggott” essay contest. Piggott Elementary School third grade students continued the long-standing tradition, as they composed essays telling why they are the “Proudest Kid in Piggott.” Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center staff members judged the entries.

Clay County Sheriff ’s Department makes arrest

In a report from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department a traffic stop was made at approximately 8:36 a.m. on County Road 135. The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Douglas Michael Tisdale of Neelyville, Mo., was appar-ently driving with a suspended driver’s license. Tisdale was placed under arrest and a search was conducted on his vehicle where what is believed to be an illegal substance was found. Tisdale was transported to the Clay County Detention Center where he was booked for possession f meth or cocaine LY 2GM, possession of drug paraphernalia-felony, driving on suspended driver’s license, and defective vehicle equipment.
