Kindergarten students at Piggott Elementary are learning about embryology through a youth educational program provided by the Clay County Extension Service. Extension Staff Chair Stewart Runsick recently provided eggs to each classroom and explained what embryology is and how to hatch chicks.
The Rector School District Gifted and Talented Program is asking for student referrals for students in the second through 11th grades. Referral forms may be picked up and returned to the elemen-tary, high school or superintendent’s office. Referred students should display high intellectual ability, task commitment and/or motivation and creative ability. Rector Elementary will host kindergarten registration from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, April 19, at the RES main building. Parents will need to provide a copy of their child’s social security card, birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of residence.
Black River Area Development Board of Directors meeting will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, April 15. The meeting will be held in person at 1403 Hospital Drive, Pocahontas, and virtually at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/ 86993459730.
The Rector City Wide Yard Sale will be held Saturday, April 13. Rector Memorial Park facilities will be available to residents free of charge during the day, but those using the park are reminded to bring their own tables for displays and will be required to clean their area once the sale is completed.
1984 A Sunday morning fire of undetermined origin gutted most of the upstairs portion of a building owned by Jim Davis on the east side of the courthouse square. The building was not occupied at the time.
The Rector Public Library has been hopping with lots of visitors excited to see the Easter bunny. On Tuesday, March 26, the Marmaduke Preschool was in attendance with each child receiving and Easter egg filled with a surprise.They also listened to Ms.Monica read‘How to Catch the Easter Bunny’ by Adam Wallace. Karrin Henderson had the honors of volunteering to wear the Easter bunny costume. Other volunteers included Emma Holmes and MaKenna Lane who read stories to the children as they waited to have their picture taken with the Easter bunny.Pictured above is Asher Walker, the four-year-old son of Caine Walker and Jasmine Thomas. On Wednesday, March 27, the Rector Preschool visited the library with over 60 kids and adults present. Involved in many aspects of youth sports development programs to include coaching and umpiring, refereeing, and cheering the efforts of young people, Kenny Faulkner is the epitome of being there when and where he is needed. He loves sports and knows instinctually the lessons young people learn from involvement in such programs.
