Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter Beta Delta Phi recently traveled to the University of Arkansas- Fort Smith to attend the regional PTK conference. Two PTK members and officers, Co-Vice President of Community Service Elizabeth Spinks and Co-Vice President of College Project Kaleigh Lester, attended guest lectures, team bonding sessions, and other fun networking events.

Black River Area Development Corporation has announced the winter energy assistance program will close on Tuesday, April 30. Applications for energy assistance will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 3 p.m., on Mondays and Tuesdays, at the BRAD Senior Center in Corning, Lawrence County Public Library and BRAD central office in Pocahontas. The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture will present topics of interest to homeowner and gardeners beginning at noon on Fridays. The meeting will take place at the Rector Public Library located at 121 W. 4th St. The meetings will continue weekly based on the amount of interest from the community.
High winds during the burning of a field resulted in the loss of a tractor and heavy damage to a grain cart parked at Big Slough ditch levee on Saturday, April 13. The equipment belonged to Alred Hinson of Hinson Farms.
Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, April 15 at the courthouse in Corning with Justices David Cagle, Dennis Haines, David Hatcher, Jody Henderson, Brad Green and Patrick Patterson in attendance. Absent were George Lowe, Randy Kingston and Neal Smith.
Piggott Elementary School’s Odessey of the Mind students came home winners as they competed in the state tournament held Friday, April 12 at Hendrix College in Conway. Odyssey of the Mind is a program that develops students’ natural creativity to become problem-solvers.
