Former Circuit Court Clerk, Sheriff and Collector, Burness W. (B.W.) Dalton dies at 86
Former Clay County Circuit Court Clerk and Sheriff and Collector, Burness Weldon (B.W.) Dalton died Sunday, April 7, 2024, in Calhoun, Ga., at the age of 86. Dalton was a 1956 graduate of Piggott High School and attended the College of the Ozarks until receiving his draft notice.

Fatal crash at Corning Y claims six, injures one
A crash between a tractortrailer and a Buick SUV occurred on Monday, April 15 at 12:20 p.m. taking the lives of six people, according to a report from the Arkansas State Police. The location of the accident was the Corning Y; the intersection of Highways 62 and 135.

Piggott Public Library receives grant for Summer Reading Program
Piggott Public Library recently received a $2,000 grant from North Delta Community Foundation as part of their Giving Tree grant program. This grant will provide funding for the library’s Summer Reading Program.

ARDOT announces plans for Corning Y project
TheArkansas Department of Transportation announced its plans to proceed with three Y intersection projects in the Fall of 2024; the first to be at the Corning Y. Shane Wood, District 10 Engineer explained, “We plan on starting that this fall. We are currently work-ing up cost estimates for all three sites. One being Corning, one being the Knobel Y, and the other being the Beech Grove Y.”

BRTC Phi Theta Kappa inducts new members
Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter recently inducted 20 members in the spring of 2024. Four inductees were present to receive the honor of induction at the ceremony held in the Randolph County Development Center.

CAR SHOW T-SHIRTS ON SALE
Organizers report that t-shirts remain on sale for the 25th annual Piggott Heritage Park Car Show and Cruise. Sizes available include youth through adult 4X at the price of $15. The shirts may be purchased at The Piggott Diner or Front Street Flea Market.
Liberty Hill Cemetery plans decoration day
Liberty Hill Cemetery will host its annual decoration day on Saturday, May 4. A business meeting will start at 11:30 a.m. with a potluck dinner following at noon. Veteran town hall event set May 6
The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center will host an informational town hall event May 6 at its Cape Girardeau VA Health Care Center, 711 Mount Auburn Rd.
