Clay County Library Board meeting set April 23
The Clay County Library Board will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 at the Rector Public Library for their quarterly meeting.
Kindergarten registration slated at Rector
Rector Elementary will host kindergarten registration from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, April 19, at the RES main building. Parents will need to provide a copy of their child’s social security card, birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of residence.
Rector Gifted and Talented Program accepting student referrals
The Rector School District Gifted and Talented Program is asking for student referrals for students in the second through 11th grades. Referral forms may be picked up and returned to the elementary, high school or superintendent’s office. Referred students should display high intellectual ability, task commitment and/or motivation and creative ability. Diamond Cougars on a roll
Corning Rector improved to 11-0 with a 7-3 win over the Corning Bobcats on Monday, April 1. Chance Lopez (3-0) earned the win on the mound for the Cougars.

Rector Chamber holds annual banquet
From the Rector Community Center lobby décor to the sophisticated table arrangements the tone for a star-studded evening was set. The crowd attending the annual Rector Chamber of Commerce was treated to Pat Mitchell’s Traveling Wisk catering, a streamlined program of awards, and a rollicking yet sincere key note address by “Rector’s native son,” Craig Snow made the evening delightful.



Gary Wayne Scheffler
Gary Wayne Scheffler, 73, of McDougal, Ark., passed away March 29, 2024, at Rector Nursing and Rehab in Rector, Ark. He was born on August 4, 1950, in Piggott, Ark., and was the son of Billy and Ruth (Whitehead) Scheffler.

Elvis Virdine Brandon
Elvis Virdine Brandon, 81, of Rector, Ark., came face to face with his Jesus on April 2, 2024, at 11:19 a.m. at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark. He was born Friday, March 12, 1943, in Piggott, Ark., to James Elvis and Delcie Imogene (Gettings) Brandon. He loved growing up in and attending McDougal, Ark., enjoying many activities including baseball, basketball, spending time with friends and coon hunting.
