An Arkansas State University professor in the College of Agriculture is part of a team that has received a grant of nearly $300,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The traditional Honors Day for Rector High School brought together students, teachers, parents, and community members. Held Friday, May 17, 9 a.m., awards and recognition were presented across the spectrum of the RHS academic program. Prior to the beginning of the full program, Angela Blankenship, representing the legacy of her daughter Hannah, who spent her best days involved with FFA, reminded the audience of the desire Hannah had for a future in agriculture business. Hannah died in a tragic car/ truck wreck, January 2018, on Hwy. 62 just east of Corning. The family presented the first Hannah Blankenship Memorial Scholarship to Rector FFA leader Joslin Ward.
The annual promotion program for grade six was celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on May 21 in the Rector gym, attended by a large number of parents, grandparents, friends, and community members.
Piggott High School seniors participated in the “Get Real” program Tuesday, May 7. We had a fun time sharing the hands-on experiential simulation with the students that teach young people about personal financial management.
The last day to register for summer classes at Three Rivers College is May 31. Summer classes begin June 3.
Future and current small business owners have several options in June to participate in a free learning opportunity through the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) at Arkansas State University.
Special Olympics Arkansas Area 1 began its torch run on Monday, May 20, with the torch being carried by local law enforcement. Officers from all over the state will carry the Flame of Hope in their cities from which the iconic flame will make its way to Little Rock.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Saturday, May 18 at 10:39 p.m. a deputy noticed a vehicle setting in the middle of the road on CR 254, just off Hwy. 135. The deputy came in contact with 31-year-old Jordan Blake Boling of Paragould. The deputy was advised by Boling that he was out of gas. The deputy also noticed that the subject was nervous. The deputy asked for his identification, and run a check on his driver’s license. The deputy learned that the subject was on probation with a search waiver on file. After learning this, the deputy conducted a search of Boling and his vehicle. Boling was then placed in custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked on the charges of possession of SCH I or II GT 2GM but LT 10GM, possession of SCH VI LT 4 oz., and possession of drug paraphernalia felony.
Extension Get Fit Fundamentals Training will be held on June 18, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Arkansas Northeastern College located at 2501 S. Division Street in Blytheville in the Sullins/Administration Building, Room A101.
