Summer Feeding Program continues at Piggott and Rector Schools
Once again this year, both the Piggott and Rector School Districts are taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding program. Under the federally-funded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools. The meals are the same for all children regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. No registration is required for those attending.
BRAD announces Summer Energy Assistance to begin July 8
Black River Area Development Corporation (BRAD) announces Summer Energy Assistance will begin accepting applications on Monday July 8, 2024. Applications will be accepted until it appears funds will be depleted.
CCSD makes arrest
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on June 16, 2024, at approximately 3:01 p.m., a Clay County Deputy observed a vehicle parked on a field road off County Road 193. The deputy went down the field road to check on the vehicle. The deputy came in contact with 62-year-old James Korbar of Corning. Korbar told the deputy he was rock hunting and that he had just gotten out of prison two months ago. The deputy advised Korbar that he was trespassing on private property. Korbar was then searched and taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center. Korbar was booked on the following charges: Criminal Trespass, Possession of Meth or Cocaine GT 2GM But LT 10GM and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

VA to host VetFest event June 29
The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center will host a VetFest event June 29 at the American Legion Post 416 in Farmington, located at 1604 W.
BRTC to host Red Cross Blood Drive July 17
Black River Technical College (BRTC) will host a Red Cross Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 17 in the Randolph County Development Center located at 1410 Hwy. 304 East on the Pocahontas campus.

RHS Helping Hands holds planning meeting
RHS Helping Hands Foundation held its planning meeting on Tuesday evening, June 18, at Wesley Fellowship Hall at Rector UMC with good attendance. The Foundation announced a new scholarship for 2024-25 school year, named the Guy and Willie Whitney Memorial Scholarship, donated by Marvin Whitney.
