Plans underway for annual Piggott Picnic and Parade

The Piggott Cemetery Association will host the annual Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming Thursday, July 4. The first four pageants will kick off the celebration on Wednesday, July. Festivities will continue Thursday morning at 9 .m. with the annual parade. In honor of the Olympics being held in Paris this summer and in support of the USA teams, this year’s theme is “TEAM USA.” Leading the parade as grand marshals will be Sue Hoggard and Lottie Gookin.

Summer Feeding Program continues at local schools

Once again this year, both the Piggott and Rector School Districts are taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding program. Under the federally-funded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools. The meals are the same for all children regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. No registration is required for those attending.

Personnel main topic at Rector School Board mtg.

Rector School Board met Monday, June 10, and continued the procedure of making plans for the upcoming school year in wishing well for teachers moving to different positions in the area and welcoming new hires to the Rector School District. Anew school year requires flexibility, quick action, and timely decisions. The most recent special meeting of the board accepted the resignation of Isaiah Ritter as math teacher and assistant basketball coach and the hiring of Landon Mason as a high school teacher and assistant coach.
