Trust the rust – Tractor Show held at RCM

Collectors get pleasure from the hunt for a special item, from the preservation of items that showcase history, from the different kind of beauty that is in the eye of the beholder. The Rector Community Museum hosted a tractor show on Saturday, June 1, that brought in nine antique tractors and four modern ones. During the Labor Day parade, some of the tractors weave down Main Street, but these were parked behind the museum so people could get close to the antiques.

Summer Feeding program continues at local schools

Once again this year, both the Piggott and Rector School Districts are taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding program. Under the federallyfunded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools. The meals are the same for all children regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. No registration is required for those attending.

Clay County crop update

According to Stewart Runsick, County Extension Agent – Staff Chair, Clay County crops have not been affected too much for the recent storms. He noted he hasn’t seen or heard of any hair or wind damage to speak of.

Pledge of Allegiance

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” In classrooms across the country, millions of students partake in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Unfortunately, many have merely memorized the words without understanding the significance it has to their country and freedom.

Respect for the Flag

The Flag Code was adopted to protect our nation’s symbol of freedom and accomplishment of those who have served. If you are unfamiliar with the rules of the banner, it’s possible to be unintentionally disrespectful.

Flying the Flag at Night

According to the United States Flag Code, American flags should be flown from sunrise to sunset. Lowering the banner at night is considered another way to show our utmost respect to the symbol and those who served. However, with enough illumination, it is perfectly acceptable to represent your patriotism throughout the night.
