Summer Reading Programs underway at local libraries

PIGGOTT - Piggott Public Library launched their Summer Reading Program with a bang on Wednesday, June 5 as they hosted their Community Helpers program. Over 150 children and adults had the opportunity to inspect the numerous displays set up by local community helpers including Piggott Community Hospital, Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce, Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center, HIPPY, Clay County Health Unit, Families, Inc., BRAD, Piggott State Bank, Piggott School District Superintendent Freddie Bowen, Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Piggott Police and Fire Departments, City of Piggott and Municipal Light Water and Sewer.

PCH receives recognization from ADH

Piggott Community Hospital EMS was recognized Wednesday, June 5 by the Arkansas Department of Health at a ceremony held in Jonesboro for their stroke care performance. Piggott Community Hospital EMS achieved Ruby Status for stroke band documentation based on the level of adherence to the defect-free care measure.

Memorial Day observed in Clay County

After an evening and morning of damaging storms in the area, the sun broke through for a Rector crowd to gather under the historic oak tree in Woodland Heights Cemetery at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 26 for the Memorial Day recognition service. During the previous week, school students and several community members placed 922 flags throughout the cemetery, one on each veteran’s gravesite.

Mary “Nadine” Whitaker

Mary “Nadine”Whitaker Mary “Nadine” (Knuckles) Whitaker, age 79, died May 26, 2024, at Country Comfort AFC home in Caro, Mich. Mary was born January 20, 1945 in Piggott, Ark., to the late Raymond and Florence (Brady) Knuckles.
