Piggott School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, July 9 with all board members in attendance. Member Fallon Winscott made a motion to waive the reading of the previous month’s minutes which all approved and the financials were also approved.
The seventh annual Mohawk Football Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, July 25, at the Sugar Creek Country Club and is being hosted by the Piggott Mohawk Football Boosters. Tee off is set for 9 a. m. with registration beginning at 8: 30 a. m. The event is a 18 hole four- person scramble and is limited to 18 teams. Lunch will be provided. Rector School Board met on July 8 at the Administration building and addressed standard issues regarding personnel and finance. Minutes from June 10 and June 25 were approved. The special meeting on June 25 addressed a move from English teacher for Ashley Dixon to High School Counselor. Makensie Walker was hired as English teacher. Stephen Dement was hired as Groundskeeper/ Maintenance. Ryan Rogers was hired as ISS Aide. Casey Vaughn was hired as Nurse/ Aide. Minutes from the regular meeting on June 10 addressed resignations from Caleb Thomas, Bridgette Branson, Deshea McCain, Chelsea Clark and Tony Sanders. Hunter Smith and Hannah Burk were hired as high school and elementary teachers, respectively.
The Piggott School Board held a special called meeting on Friday, July 12 at 8 a.m. for correction in the price for the furniture for the Lil Mohawk Daycare. Jacob Richardson, Fallon Winscott, Rob Chandler and Kristen Gurley were present with board president Jennifer Rahn absent.
In keeping with their longstanding tradition, a full slate of pageants, food and fun is set for the annual St. Francis Picnic, being held this Saturday, July 20, to benefit the Hall and Gravel Hill cemeteries. The popular event is held the third Saturday of each July at the picnic grounds in St. Francis, with events and activities going on throughout the day.
Despite the excessive heat, turnout was good for the 97th edition of the Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Parade, held Thursday, July 4. The annual picnic, which serves to provide continued maintenance and upkeep for the local cemetery, kicked-off Wednesday evening with the first four pageants, along with an armband night on the midway.
Crowned 2024 National American Miss Arkansas Preteen Maci Brown, the 11-yearold- daughter of Leslie and Steven Brown of Rector, was crowned 2024 National American MissArkansas Preteen at the state pageant held Saturday, June 22 at the Marriott Tulsa Hotel Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla. Along with receiving her official state crown, banner and trophy, Maci also received a special invitation to compete at the National Pageant held during Thanksgiving week in Orlando, Fla.
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas will host a drive-thru commodity distribution in Clay County on Wednesday, July 17 The distribution will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Rector Community Center, 740 East Ninth Street, Rector and from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Agape Mission Outreach, 501 S.W. Second Street in Corning. Both locations will be held until food runs out.
