The 94th edition of the annual Greenway Picnic, held each year to fund the continued upkeep of the beautiful Mitchell Cemetery, is set for this Saturday, Aug. 3, at the community’s picnic grounds and will feature the traditional slate of beauty pageants.
Labor Day Picnic meeting planned The Woodland Heights Cemetery Board will host its annual public meeting at 6 p. m.
The Piggott School Board held a special called meeting on Monday, July 22 in the administration office with all board members in attendance. After calling the meeting to order, the board went into executive session until 5:55 p.m.
Piggott City Council met on Thursday, July 25 with all members in attendance. The minutes from the condemnation meeting and the regular meeting held in June was approved and the financial report was accepted with no questions.
Organizers with the Fifth and Pine Church of Christ in Rector will host their annual “Back to School with Love Day” from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
With the start of classes just a couple of weeks away, members of the Piggott Community Alliance have joined forces once again this year to organize “Backpack Bash” for students of Piggott Elementary and Piggott High School. . This year’s bash will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3. This year the event will take place at the Piggott First General Baptist Church Life Center.

As usual, the 2024 picnic will officially kick off at 9 a.m. with the opening ceremonies on the grandstand, and activities will continue throughout the day. In keeping with tradition, there will be food stands, games, bingo, novelties and rides for the kids. A corn hole tournament with beginners and advance brackets is set for 11 a.m. east of the grandstand. There will be live entertainment throughout the day by JR Rogers and the All-Star Band.
Former Blackcat standout athlete Keith Price, Rector High School class of 1974, has been named to the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2024. He will be inducted at the annual RHSSHOF luncheon on Saturday, Aug.
Clear skies and good crowds were the order of the day Saturday, July 13, as the 91st annual Pollard Picnic was held. Each year the event is held at the picnic grounds in Pollard, with the proceeds benefiting the continued up keep of the New Hope Cemetery.
