Reunion planned for PHS Class of ‘74

PHS Class of 1974 will celebrate their 50th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Strawberry Event Center at 107 Main, Holcomb, Mo. Buffet meal and drink is $25 per person with cash bar available. Money will be paid at the door. Please RSVP by Aug. 23 for meal planning with your name and number in your party. Rector High School will host student registration for the upcoming school year on July 30, 31 and Aug. 1. Registration for seniors will be conducted from 8 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, with juniors registering from 12 to 3 p.m. that day. The schedule on Wednesday, July 31, includes sophomores from 8 to 11 a.m. while freshmen will register from 12 to 3 p.m. The final day of registration will be Thursday, Aug. 1, with eighth graders registering from 8 to 11 a.m. while seventh graders will register from 12 to 3 p.m. All of the registrations will be held at Rector High School.

Senath Lions Club to sponsor dog show

Senath Lions Club will sponsor a dog show at the annual Hornersville Watermelon Festival on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The 94th edition of the annual Greenway Picnic, held each year to fund the continued upkeep of the beautiful Mitchell Cemetery, is set for this Saturday, Aug. 3, at the community’s picnic grounds and will feature the traditional slate of beauty pageants.

HENSON AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP

Clay County Farm Bureau board member Keith Woolverton recently presented one of the 2024 Farm Bureau Scholarships to Jessie Henson of Pollard. Henson, a recent graduate of Piggott High School, will be attending Arkansas State University this fall semester while studying in the field of Radiologic Science. The local Clay County Farm Bureau presents a $500 scholarship to a deserving graduate from each of their county school systems each year. Henson is the daughter of Roger and Lorissa Henson. Williams Baptist University has announced a $5,000 donation from the Ramsons Arts Partnership, a charity that is being launched by Ramsons Construction of Jonesboro, Ark., to support arts in the region.

A reading retreat is planned for this fall at two of the Arkansas State University Heritage Sites. The retreat will be held at The Historic Dyess Colony: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home and Southern Tenant Farmers Museum.
