New event planned at Clay County Fair
A new event has been added to the Clay County Fair this year as Barrel Races will be featured on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Training for the event will begin at 5 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Among the events offered will be training barrels, peewee barrels for children eight and under, youth 3D, adult 3D sidepot and open 4D barrels. The event is free to the public.



How crafting benefits children
Kids have boundless energy. Parents of young children can look to various activities to harness that energy, and crafting is one endeavor that makes use of kids’ enthusiasm and creativity.

Maynard Pioneer Days scheduled
The 44th annual Maynard Pioneer Days is set Thursday, Sept. 12 through Saturday, Sept. 14. They’ll kick things off this year with “School Night” at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Pioneer Park and Museum. The festivities continue on Friday with a chicken ‘n dumpling or hamburger plate served at 5 p.m., baked goods contest, auction and a free concert by Cory Jackson at 7 p.m. The annual parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday. There will also be crafts, concessions, blacksmithing demonstrations, bounce house, and music from Dixon Street. Those wanting additional information may call 870647-2701.
Constitution Road Trip planned at Powhatan
Powhatan Historic State Park will host the Constitution Road Trip travelling exhibit from the Arkansas State Archives on Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday. Sept. 14 at the Powhatan Courthouse. Join park staff and state archivists to view original pages from Arkansas’s several state constitutions. This exhibit will give visitors a front-row view of Arkansas’s changing history through its primary legal document. This is a free event, no registration is required. High speed chase results in arrests
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department recently reported at approximately 5:10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, a Clay County Deputy was sitting west of Corning on CR 131 and U.S. 67 when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. 67. The deputy pulled in behind the vehicle, a black Dodge Charger, and paced it at 85 miles per hour. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated to over 100 miles per hour. As they entered Randolph County, the vehicle turned off its lights.
