BRAD Summer Entergy Assistance Program to close
Black River Area Development Corporation has announced the Summer Entergy Assistance Program will close Monday, Sept. 30, 2024. Program coordinators report applications for Summer Energy Assistance will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. In turn, the applications will be processed until it appears the funds have been fully depleted.
John J. Pershing VA Medical Ctr. to unveil POW/MIA display
The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff invites all Veterans, their families and caregivers, along with members of the community to attend a special ceremony Monday, Sept. 16 to unveil a new, permanent POW/MIA honor chair and plaque display.

1984 School has started in Piggott and superintendant Fletcher Chasteen told the local board Monday night that he is pleased with the initial enrollment of 1,005, up about 40 students from last year. A petition has been filed with the Clay County Clerk to increase the county library tax by .7 of a mill.

Clay County Fair underway, Youth Day set Friday
The Clay County Fair gets underway today, Wednesday, Sept. 11 and will run through Saturday, Sept.14, at the fairgrounds in Piggott.

Piggott native featured in NASA magazine
Piggott native Joseph E. (J.E.) Pritchett was recently featured in the latest edition of the NASA Spinoff 2024 magazine. He is the owner and president of Superior Products International II, Inc. located in Shawnee, Kansas, is a worldwide leader in special corrosion encapsulation and high heat insulation coatings.
Clay County land auction nets $12,864
Commissioner of State Lands Tommy Land conducted an auction of Clay County tax-delinquent properties recently at the Courthouse in Piggott. The State Land Office reported the sale of 18 parcels collecting $12,864.10 in revenue for Clay County and state government.
