SWCS - Clay County native and former county extension agent, Allison Howell, has served as a soil conservationist for the last year at the NRCS office in Piggott. This fall, Allison was accepted into the 2025 class of the Soil and Water Conservation Society’s (SWCS) Emerging Leaders Program. Recognized as the premier international organization for professionals shaping the future of natural resource conservation, SWCS has chosen Howell for her outstanding commitment to the science and art of conservation. She will join a group of up-and-coming leaders in conservation that are spread across several countries and disciplines.

Dianne Williams Cluck Dianne Williams Cluck, 81 of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Piggott Community Hospital. Dianne was born in 1943 in Detroit, Michigan.
Lloyd Stanley McCluskey Lloyd Stanley McCluskey, known affectionately to all as Stanley, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, in Paragould, Arkansas, at the age of 75. Born on March 27, 1949, to the late Lloyd (Doc) and Lillie Marie (Burns) McCluskey.
Powhatan Historic State Park will host “Ghost Walks” tours Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each night. Park interpreters will take guests on guided tours, highlighting the many ghost stories, folk tales, and legends about the park in its 200-year history. The cost for the guided tour is $6 plus tax per adult and $4 plus tax per person for children ages 12 and under. Space is limited and registration is required. This past week was an exciting week at the Rector Public Library! Preschoolers from Rector and Marmaduke along with the Rector Kindergarten gathered with big smiles and bright eyes, ready to meet a very special guest— Smokey Bear! Tuesday, Sept. 24, Wednesday, Sept. 25 and Thursday, Sept. 26 the library hosted Smokey Bear and two rangers from the Arkansas Forestry Department, Mr. Bill and Mr. Chris.
